An excerpt from a story I wrote years ago (a short story with some valid research):In the Middle Ages there was a theory that unrequited love caused death. When a person felt love, the heat from that love produced a steam in the body. This steam contained chemicals vital to the body's health, and when a lover looked at his beloved it was thought that this steam escaped through his eyes and was absorbed by hers. If she shared the love then her eyes emitted steam as well and there was an equal exchange of those life-giving chemicals. If the exchange was unequal then the more fervent lover grew pale, weak, and eventually he died.TT
