Sunday and Monday were my boat-work days. I spent all day Sunday working on the holding tank system, installing a Y-valve so that the aft head could pump to the holding tank. The previous owners had done some work - put in a new vented loop, it appears - and the Y-valve was left out because stuff needed to be cut & pushed around, basically 4 hours worth of work. But I'm glad I got to do it; I needed to know more about this boat and fixing stuff is the best way to learn. Anyway, in the course of all that, I went a little crazy and started going through all my stowage areas and throwing crap away that I didn't really need. Did I really need to keep a shoebox full of letters/cards from old girlfriends dating back to college (back in the old days before the Internet, when people wrote letters).
Anyway, behind the salon settee, I came across all the Playboys I'd stowed because somewhere I'd read that when you get boarded by the Mexican Navy, or in the South Pacific somewhere, a Playboy - or even a single page from a Playboy - could help smooth the inspection process. Oh well, at this point, I need all the storage I can get. I'm trying to clean out the mess that is the forward head and make the entire forward cabin livable for crew, as I've been talking to potential crew members about going south with me. Single-handing is good, and I'm completely comfortable with it, but it would be nice to be able to go faster and not have to go into port to get a good six hour's sleep. So throwing away Playboys isn't the crazy thing... I've basically created a complete mess in order to create more organization. The aft cabin (my cabin) was ripped apart to repair the holding tank, the forward cabin was ripped apart to get to the spare Y-valve underneath the forward cabin's pullman berth, and the salon was ripped apart because a lot of tools are under the salon settee. Okay, so it's mostly just cushions all over the place, but it looks messy. Anyway, I'll call it progress as soon as I recover and can put everything back together nicely. I was distracted yesterday by important stuff going down with work and spent 8:30 am until 4:30 am in front of my computer, fixing old stuff and developing new stuff. And now I'm sitting in this mess that I have been slowly chipping away at.This sure was an uninteresting post, huh. Well, it's better than nothing, I guess, which is what I've posted since just after Christmas. Happy new year!TT
